The Timeline

Here is the Timeline which takes you on a journey through time from 30000 years ago when cavemen were trying to capture movement in their cave paintings in the Chauvet cave in France to the 28th December 1895 when the Lumiere brothers gave their first commercial screening of films.

Camera Obscura

The Magic Lanterns

Here are some of our magic lanterns, there will be more on display when I return later in January.

We have a very impressive wall of 24 day and night 18th century Vues d’Optique, the lighting is controlled by a timer which allows visitors to appreciate the transformation from day to night when the pierced and cut out prints are lit from behind. Here you can see the night “effect”

This one was difficult to photograph, the combination of black and glass makes a mirror effect!
