Museum Introduction a Film by Karien Mulder
Narrator and Collector Akram Miknas
Curator and Script Pierre Patau
Since the earliest days of civilisation, man has been fascinated with the concept of capturing movement. The Moving Image Museum is one of only a handful of museums in the world focusing on the history of the moving image, and is the only museum of it’s kind in the Middle East.
Housing the private collection of Mr. Akram Miknas, which he has accumulated over twenty-five years, the Moving Image Museum was born out of Mr. Miknas’ wish to share his collection with the public, hoping to inspire and educate the region with an exhilarating part of history.
Throughout the Moving Image Museum, visitors will find numerous interactive features, allowing guests of all ages to fully experience the rich history by viewing and interacting with objects such as peeping into an eighteenth century Dutch peepbox viewer, or turning the reel of an early twentieth century mutoscope to see the flicker effect.

Akram Miknas honoured with the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Patrons of the Arts Award 2013
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 13 May 2013: Akram Miknas, Chairman of MCN Group, was today honoured with a revered Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Patrons of the Arts Award in the second highest category – for his Moving Image Museum. Akram Miknas was personally presented with the award by HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, in recognition of his contribution to the Emirate’s artistic development.
The stylish award ceremony was held under the auspices of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, and was attended by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai. Now in its fourth edition, the awards were introduced in March 2009, by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum with the intention of honouring individuals and organisations that have contributed to the growth of the cultural scene in Dubai.
“I am grateful to Dubai for being a great home for our museum and more so to the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Patrons of the Arts Awards for the recognition I have received. It motivates me to do even more for the museum and for the arts scene in this region,” said Akram Miknas, the founder and owner of the Moving Image Museum, and Chairman of MCN Group.
The Moving Image Museum is one of only a handful of museums in the world focusing on the history of the moving image, and is the only museum of its kind in the Middle East. Charting the evolution of the moving image, from the first primitive cave drawings to the birth of the motion picture film, the Moving Image Museum houses Akram Miknas’ private collection, painstakingly accumulated over more than 30 years. The Moving Image Museum was born out of his wish to share his collection with the public, hoping to inspire and educate the region with an exciting part of history. All items in the museum are original, dating back from the 1730s to the twentieth century.
The museum is located on the first floor of MCN’s Hive building, located in Tecom Section C in Dubai.
Here are some images of our display at the ATM in Dubai, we are very grateful to Alpha Tours and Mr. Ghassan Aridi for hosting us and providing us with the space to promote the museum. Sheikh Maktoum, Sheikh Mohammed son and Deputy Ruler of Dubai who is also the Patron of Arts in Dubai showed a lot of interest in our museum and asked Akram Miknas to organise a visit for Him, we are honoured by his interest.
